National Waste & Recycling Association selects iCohere's Unified Learning System to provide an industry-wide driver safety certification program.

New internet-based certification program will fill gap in driver safety training.

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. and WASHINGTON, D.C. – November 5, 2014 – In response to continued increases in fatality and injury rates for waste and recycling employees between 2010 and 2013, the National Waste and Recycling Association (NW&RA) is expanding its safety-related resources and training opportunities with a Safe Driver Certification program. iCohere, a global provider of cloud-based learning management and professional development solutions, has been selected as its software provider and learning management system for the national program.

The Safe Driver Certification program is a new SCORM compliant on-demand educational program for both members and non-members of NW&RA. It was developed to fill the gap that has existed in driver safety training. Using a competitive bidding process, NW&RA selected iCohere's Unified Learning System with its webinar and courses services.

"We need the program to be up and running quickly. We chose iCohere because we wanted an LMS tailored to government or associations, and one that would easily integrate with our membership system, said Sheila Alkire, NW&RA's director of education. "It was important that the system provide a very positive end-user experience."

In addition to implementing the Safe Driver Certification program, Alkire said NW&RA will continue to expand safety training building on its pre-existing efforts like developing ANSI standards and publishing the Manual of Recommended Safety Practices for the Waste & Recycling Industry.

"In response to the industry's training needs, the team at NW&RA has ramped up a high quality certification program in record time," said Pascal Kaplan, CEO of iCohere. "It's a reflection of their commitment to the industry and we are pleased to support their program and this important industry initiative."
