How To Create An eLearning Marketing Video With PowerPoint

Did you know that goldfish have a longer average attention span than people?

It’s true.

In 2000, the average attention span for a person was 12 seconds, and a goldfish was 9 seconds. Today, you can keep our attention on average for about 8.25 seconds. And the goldfish? He’s still at 9 seconds.

It’s quite challenging to grab and keep your audience’s attention, but here’s a little good news… On average, people tend to watch over two minutes of an Internet video.

What does this tell us?

It tells us that if we want to grab and keep their attention, video marketing should be in our marketing mix.

Video marketing doesn’t have to be a complicated production. In fact, it’s easy to create shareable marketing videos simply using PowerPoint, your computer, a few images, music, and a good story.

  • Create a video for your social media channels using images, text, music and a call-to-action.

Here’s the quick five-step process for using PowerPoint to create a fun, engaging social media video.

1. Create your story using PowerPoint slides, images and text. (Find royalty-free images at

2. Use PowerPoint’s animation tools to apply video-like animations to text and images on each slide.

3.  Use PowerPoint’s slide transitions to apply cool transitions between slides.

4. Add a soundtrack or VoiceOver, or both! Choose music that fits the style and storyline of your video. Edit the settings to play the music through the entire powerpoint. As an alternative, you can narrate the slides using PowerPoint’s narration feature. (Find royalty-free music from sites like

5. Save the PowerPoint as an MP4 (Mpeg-4) video and upload to your company YouTube, Vimeo or other video channel.
