First Time Online Conference Success Stories
In the examples below two of the planners had short lead times to prepare their online events (in ASHA’s case only two months); none had an IT background; all indicated the ease of configuring and implementing iCohere’s features and the training they received as important factors in making their success possible.
At a 2009 ASAE & The Center for Association Leadership Technology Conference, three iCohere clients described their success using iCohere’s platform to engage their members in online conferences.
Jack Coursen, Educational Program Manager at The
American-Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) described
waning participation at their face-to-face annual conference that
prompted them to go online. Their first online conference saw twice
the participation of their prior face-to-face event, with an overall
satisfaction rating of 4.76 out of 5. In addition, 97% of their
participants said they would attend future online conferences. ASHA
went from losing $15,000 in 2005 to generating revenues of $58,000
in 2007.

Similarly, but with a very different focus, Sister Susan Wolf, Executive Director, from the Paulist National Catholic Evangelization Association (PNCEA) described her experience in raising the national profile of their mission. PNCEA received funding to subsidize the innovative use of technology, which they used to create an online conference. Their goal was to reach about 40 dioceses [out of 186] and about 300 attendees. They actually reached 107 dioceses and had 593 attendees, almost twice their expectations. 87% of participants rated their experience as good or better. 92% said they would attend another online conference, which Sister Susan is already planning for 2009 using iCohere platform.

The American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) represents over 800 institutions around the nation. Since 2005, AACTE has used iCohere to hold a series of webinars and online conferences for training and to push out valuable content about teacher preparation. Using a mix of live and prerecorded breakout sessions, Alicia Ardila-Rey, Ph.D., Director, Policy Programs and Professional Issues, led a team that planned, organized and produced AACTE’s annual online events. During 2007-2008, AACTE had over 500 members actively participating in their online events that generated a profit of $13,000. Although the revenues were modest, members valued the experience, indicating these events provided easy-to-access valuable training opportunities.
